Member of Parliament Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan has sought details from the central government on plans to develop and promote tourism in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Ramzan asked whether the government had a comprehensive strategy to promote destinations including Lolab Valley, Bangus Valley, Keran and Machil at national and international levels.

He also sought details of infrastructure projects, promotional initiatives and budget allocations for the development of the areas.

The MP asked the government to provide information on measures to improve road connectivity, accommodation, homestays and mobile connectivity in remote and border areas of the district.

He also sought details of the number of local youths trained or employed through tourism-related skill development schemes over the past three years.

Ramzan said Kupwara had significant untapped tourism potential and called for sustained central support to develop the district as a major destination.

He said investment in tourism infrastructure and promotion could generate employment, improve connectivity and basic amenities and support economic development in remote and border areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
