Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Wednesday administered the oath of office to Manoj Gupta as a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Water Resources Regulatory Authority (JKWRA), in a move the administration said would strengthen institutional oversight of the Union Territory’s water sector.
Senior officials of the Jal Shakti Department and other government dignitaries attended the oath-taking ceremony.
Gupta’s appointment fills a key position in the statutory authority responsible for regulating the allocation, use and management of water resources in Jammu and Kashmir.
The administration said the appointment would bolster the authority’s capacity to promote transparent, equitable and sustainable management of water resources amid growing demand for efficient water governance.
The JKWRA is mandated to frame regulatory policies, advise the government on water resource management, and promote scientific planning to ensure the optimal utilisation of water across the domestic, agricultural, industrial, and environmental sectors.
Officials said strengthening the authority forms part of broader efforts to improve institutional mechanisms governing water security, resource conservation and long-term planning in J&K.
