Jammu, April 11
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said on Saturday authorities would revoke key identity documents, including Aadhaar numbers and passports, of convicted drug traffickers under a new Standard Operating Procedure (SoP), as part of a broader crackdown on narcotics networks in the region.
Speaking at the launch of a 100-day anti-drug campaign at M A Stadium, LG Sinha said assets of offenders would be seized and bank accounts frozen, while absconders would face lookout notices.
“The full force of the law is now directed at smugglers. Their networks will be dismantled without delay,” he said, warning that those involved in drug trafficking would face swift prosecution.
The campaign, titled ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan,’ began with a public march from the stadium to Parade Ground, drawing thousands of participants including officials, students and civil society members.
Authorities described the initiative as a “decisive battle” against drug abuse in the union territory.
LG Sinha said the next 100 days would be critical, with the administration adopting a “whole-of-government” approach combining enforcement, awareness drives, youth outreach, community engagement and rehabilitation efforts.
Under the new SoP, officials will revoke passports, driving licences, Aadhaar numbers, and arms licences of individuals involved in drug trafficking.
Properties linked to offenders will be attached under the NDPS Act, alongside financial investigations into their assets, he said.
The LG also said authorities would intensify monitoring of rehabilitation centres under newly notified rules governing substance use treatment facilities, warning of action against those operating in violation of norms.
Calling for public participation, LG Sinha said the campaign would be expanded across towns and villages, with local bodies and community groups playing a role in identifying offenders and supporting prevention efforts.
A similar campaign is expected to be launched in Srinagar in early May, officials said.
