Jammu, April 10

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday called on residents of Jammu and Kashmir to join a 100-day campaign against drug abuse, urging broad public participation in what he described as a collective effort to safeguard the region’s youth.

In a video message, LG Sinha appealed to citizens to take part in a “pad yatra,” or foot march, scheduled for April 11 from M A Stadium in Jammu to launch the initiative aimed at creating a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.

He said the region was at a “critical and decisive phase,” alleging that young people were being targeted by drug networks in a bid to undermine society.

The LG referenced the nationwide Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, launched in 2020 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as a broader framework for anti-drug efforts.

He said multiple measures had been taken in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years, including a large-scale campaign in 2025 and enforcement actions by Police and security forces.

However, LG Sinha emphasised the need for a wider societal response involving civil society groups, political representatives, academics, athletes and other stakeholders.

According to him, the 100-day campaign will include awareness programs and coordinated action by government departments, police and security agencies.

Participants will also take a pledge against drug use during the launch event.

Describing the initiative as a “mass movement,” the LG urged citizens to treat it as a personal responsibility and actively participate in activities across districts.

He said that he plans to visit different parts of the region to support the campaign and encourage public involvement.

LG Sinha said that the campaign was intended to strengthen efforts against drug trafficking and addiction while mobilising communities to take a leading role in addressing the issue.
