Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday congratulated the Jammu and Kashmir Police on completing the Jashn-e-Dal 2026 water sports event, saying young athletes would play a key role in the region’s sporting future.
Nearly 600 athletes competed in 20 disciplines over the past few days, including kayaking, canoeing, rowing, sculling, and the traditional shikara race, Sinha said.
He described the event as a growing sporting tradition in Jammu and Kashmir, saying it had developed beyond an annual competition into an occasion with a strong connection to local communities.
Sinha said participation in sports helped young people develop discipline, patience, determination and courage, in addition to producing competitive athletes.
He urged participants to pursue excellence through hard work and self-confidence, while encouraging medal winners to remain humble and other competitors to treat setbacks as opportunities to improve.
The Lieutenant Governor also called for greater participation in efforts to build a healthy, drug-free society, describing sports as a means of engaging young people in constructive activities.
He praised the police for its youth-oriented and civic initiatives, including the Run for Unity programme and the upcoming Pedal for Paradise rally, saying such activities encouraged community participation and strengthened public engagement.
Sinha expressed confidence that water sports in Jammu and Kashmir would continue to expand and provide more opportunities for young athletes.
