A man was killed and another seriously injured after a member of the Village Defence Guard (VDG) allegedly opened fire on them in Moughri village of Udhampur district, police said on Friday.
The incident followed an argument between the two sides over an unspecified issue, according to officials.
The deceased was identified as Baldev Singh, son of Kartar Singh. The injured man was identified as Ramesh Singh, son of Nek Ram.
Police said both men sustained gunshot wounds allegedly fired from a weapon issued to a VDG member.
Several suspects, including VDG members, have been detained, and an investigation is under way, police officials said.
