Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid tribute to India’s armed forces on the first anniversary of ‘Operation Sindoor’ and urged citizens to change their social media display pictures in solidarity with the military.

In a post on X, Modi praised the “courage, precision and resolve” shown by the armed forces during the operation, which he said was launched in response to an attack on civilians in Pahalgam, Kashmir.

“A year ago, our armed forces displayed unparalleled courage, precision and resolve during #OperationSindoor,” Modi said, adding that the forces had given a “fitting response” to those who attacked innocent Indians.

The prime minister said the operation demonstrated India’s firm stance against terrorism and underscored its commitment to national security.

He said the mission highlighted the professionalism, preparedness and coordination among India’s armed forces, while also reflecting growing integration between the services and advances in domestic defence manufacturing.

“Today, a year later, we remain as steadfast as ever in our resolve to defeat terrorism and destroy its enabling ecosystem,” Modi said.

As part of the anniversary observance, Modi called on people to update their profile pictures on social media platforms, including X, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, using an image shared by him as a tribute to the armed forces.

India has frequently cited Operation Sindoor as an example of its counter-terrorism response capabilities and efforts to strengthen defence self-reliance.
