National Conference (NC) Member of Parliament Chowdry Muhammad Ramzan on Wednesday said a long-delayed drinking water project in Kupwara district was nearing completion after his intervention, while accusing People’s Conference leader and Handwara MLA Sajad Lone of failing to execute the scheme during his tenure.
Ramzan said the Lower Rajwar Raw Water Main project was sanctioned in 2012 to address chronic drinking water shortages but remained incomplete for years.
He said he took up the matter with the Jammu and Kashmir government after receiving repeated complaints from residents, following which funds were released and officials were directed to expedite the work.
According to Ramzan, the project is now ready for commissioning and is expected to provide drinking water to about 25,000 people across 13 villages.
He also accused Lone of claiming credit for incomplete works and alleged that several development projects in the Handwara constituency had remained unfinished because they were not pursued effectively.
There was no immediate response from Lone to Ramzan’s allegations.
