Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday pledged to eradicate violence from Jammu and Kashmir, while Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the region’s tourism sector was still feeling the impact of last year’s Pahalgam attack but could recover as visitor numbers pick up.
Marking the first anniversary of the April 22, 2025 attack in Pahalgam in which 26 civilians were killed, LG Sinha paid tribute to the victims and reiterated a hardline stance against militancy.
“We will not forget. We will not forgive. India stands unified against terrorism. We pledge unwavering commitment and resolute determination to eradicate terrorism from the soil of Jammu Kashmir,” he said in a statement.
CM Omar, speaking to reporters after visiting victims of a recent road accident at a government hospital in Udhampur, said tourism had declined following the attack but added that there were signs of a gradual revival.
“It is correct to say that tourism is still reeling under the impact to some extent, but we expect a good number of visitors as the season progresses,” he said, citing upcoming pilgrimages such as the Amarnath Yatra and visits to the Vaishno Devi shrine as potential drivers of inflows.
Security and administrative measures have been strengthened across the region since the attack, officials say, as authorities seek to reassure visitors and stabilise the tourism sector.
