Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday called on athletes to act as ambassadors of the ‘Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan’, urging them to inspire youth to shun drugs and embrace sports.
LG Sinha was speaking at the inauguration of the All India Inter-University Wushu Championship at the University of Kashmir (KU), where he reiterated the administration’s commitment to strengthening a sporting culture across higher educational institutions.
He said the championship was more than a competition, describing it as a platform promoting unity, discipline and national integration under the “Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat” vision.
“This championship carries a responsibility to uphold the spirit of sport that transcends competition and connects us to our highest aspirations,” LG Sinha said, adding that such events foster friendship, break barriers and reinforce a sense of unity.
Highlighting the discipline required in Wushu, he said the martial art reflected the resilience of youth and provided an avenue for cultural exchange.
The LG encouraged participants to create and share short videos on social media to spread awareness against substance abuse.
“You are role models for the new generation. Your appeal will inspire youth to walk on the right path,” he said.
The championship has drawn participation from more than 150 universities and over 1000 athletes from across India, featuring both men’s and women’s events.
Organised under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities, the six-day event will include multiple bouts across categories in Wushu, a martial art combining agility, strength and precision.
