A leopard attacked and injured four people in the Khansahib area of Budgam in central Kashmir on Sunday, prompting panic among residents, officials and locals said.
The animal appeared in Batpora and Sheikhpora villages, attacking multiple individuals before moving through nearby habitations, locals said.
The injured were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment, while police reached the area and initiated measures to control the situation, officials said.
Residents criticised what they described as a delayed response from the wildlife authorities, saying no team was present during the critical period.
“If the wildlife team had arrived on time, the leopard could have been captured,” a local resident said.
Authorities have yet to confirm the leopard’s capture, and the area remains on alert amid reports of its continued presence, with residents urging immediate action to track the animal.
