Srinagar, June 20

Kashmir Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) in Sempora has launched free vaccination services under the Government of India’s Universal Immunisation Programme, expanding access to preventive healthcare for children and pregnant women in the region.

The immunisation clinic, established within the institution’s Department of Community Medicine, was inaugurated on Saturday in the presence of hospital administrators, faculty members and representatives of the managing trust.

Hospital officials said the facility would provide vaccines listed under the National Immunisation Schedule and cater primarily to children below 5 years of age and expectant mothers.

The initiative aims to strengthen maternal and child healthcare services while supporting national public health objectives.

KMCH Managing Director Tausif Ahmad said timely vaccination remained one of the most effective tools for preventing infectious diseases and improving health outcomes.

The hospital said the facility includes a dedicated cold-chain system equipped with deep freezers and an Ice-Lined Refrigerator registered under India’s National Cold Chain Management Information System, ensuring safe vaccine storage and distribution.

Officials said the clinic would serve not only hospital patients but also residents from surrounding communities.

Community Medicine Department head Shahnaz Nabi urged eligible beneficiaries to make use of the free vaccination services.
