More than 6000 runners took part in the Kashmir Marathon’s ‘Run for Unity’ event, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said on Thursday, describing youth participation as an investment in the region’s shared future.

Speaking at the marathon’s closing ceremony, Sinha praised the participants and Jammu and Kashmir Police, which organised the event, saying the race had become a symbol of peace, unity and progress in the region.

The marathon was not simply a test of speed or endurance but an expression of collective determination and faith, Sinha said, stressing that unity was essential to overcoming challenges.

He said India’s diversity in language, traditions, food and clothing was complemented by a shared national identity, adding that collective efforts could help the country achieve its development goals.

Sinha said the runners had conveyed a message that no objective was beyond reach for a united India. Their participation, he added, reflected a commitment to a better future for Jammu and Kashmir and the next generation.

The Lieutenant Governor urged young people in the region to adopt disciplined lifestyles, maintain physical fitness and promote brotherhood, while staying away from drugs.

He also referred to the government’s 100-day ‘Nasha Mukt J&K’ campaign, which he said had engaged thousands of young people through marches and civic action programmes.

Sinha called on youth to become ambassadors of the Fit India Movement and contribute to nation-building, saying the significance of a marathon lay not only in crossing the finish line but also in supporting others along the way.

Senior police and civil administration officials, including Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, along with sports personalities and young people, attended the ceremony.
