Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have terminated agreements between three universities and a US-based non-profit organisation following security concerns over alleged attempts to influence narratives in the region, officials said.

The administration discontinued all Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Kashmir Care Foundation after a review by security agencies flagged its activities, according to official sources.

The decision affects partnerships with the University of Kashmir, Islamic University of Science and Technology and Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Kashmir.

Officials said the organisation had been using academic collaborations, seminars and outreach programmes to engage with students and faculty, raising concerns about “influence-building” and “narrative shaping”.

A review of the group’s activities, funding patterns and institutional linkages was carried out following what authorities described as “credible inputs”.

“The affiliations and MoUs have been terminated with immediate effect,” an official said, adding that further action was under consideration.

Authorities also said that some students associated with the organisation, including those involved in internships or collaborations, were being reviewed as part of a precautionary exercise.

The government said the move was aimed at safeguarding academic institutions from external interference and warned that any misuse of educational platforms for unlawful purposes would be dealt with strictly under the law.

Officials added that the step underscored a broader effort to protect educational spaces amid a focus on development and youth engagement in the region.
