India does not seek to provoke others but will respond firmly to attacks, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Sunday, referring to ‘Operation Sindoor’.

His remarks come ahead of the first anniversary of the Pahalgam attack, in which 26 tourists were killed, triggering widespread outrage.

“Remember, we do not disturb anyone, but we do not spare anyone if they disturb us,” Singh said addressing a roadshow in support of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate in Radhapuram ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections 2026.

Voting for 234 assembly seats in the southern state is scheduled for April 23.

Following the attack last year, India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’, targeting what it described as militant launchpads inside Pakistan.
