India on Thursday condemned attacks on civilian and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia after one Indian national was killed and three others were injured in incidents involving King Fahd International Airport in Dammam and the Shaybah oil field.

The Ministry of External Affairs said one Indian was killed, and two were injured in the attack on Dammam airport on Wednesday. Another Indian was injured in the attack on the Shaybah oil field.

“We convey our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and wish speedy recovery to those injured,” the ministry said in a statement.

The Indian embassy in Riyadh was in contact with Saudi authorities and would provide all possible assistance to those affected, it said.

“Attacks on civilian and critical infrastructure are completely unacceptable and must cease immediately,” the ministry said, adding that India stood in solidarity with Saudi Arabia in safeguarding its sovereignty.

The Indian embassy said it was establishing further details and contacting the affected families.

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation said the Dammam airport attack killed a Saudi citizen and an Indian resident and injured eight other people. The injured were receiving treatment for wounds ranging from minor to severe, it said.

Damage assessments were underway, while airport operations and air traffic had returned to normal, the authority added.

Separately, Major General Turki Al-Maliki, spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition, said a drone had been intercepted and destroyed over Riyadh.

The Indian government did not provide further details about the circumstances of the attacks.
