Heavy rain disrupted normal life in parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, with the worst conditions reported in Rajouri’s Sunderbani subdivision, parts of Reasi district and Akhnoor in Jammu district, officials said.

While Rajouri town and nearby areas received only light rain in the morning and saw relatively fair weather, several higher reaches of the district were hit by moderate to heavy showers for several hours.

The prolonged rainfall affected daily activities and disrupted traffic on the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch National Highway, a key road link connecting the region.

Minor landslides were reported at several locations between Bhambla and Chowki Choura, with debris spilling onto sections of the highway and briefly forcing authorities to halt traffic, officials said.

Road clearance teams were deployed immediately to remove the debris and restore movement along the affected stretches.

Traffic resumed after the road was cleared, officials said.

The latest disruption came as Jammu and Kashmir continued to grapple with a prolonged spell of monsoon weather that has triggered floods, landslides and mudslides across several districts, damaging roads and other infrastructure and disrupting connectivity.

Authorities remain on alert as further rainfall is forecast in parts of the region over the coming days, raising the possibility of additional landslides and temporary road closures in vulnerable areas.
