Thousands of devotees gathered at Hazratbal and other mosques and shrines across Kashmir on Tuesday night ahead of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW), marking the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
The largest gathering was at the Hazratbal shrine on the banks of Dal Lake, where men, women and children spent the night in prayers, Quran recitation and sermons on the Prophet’s life and teachings.
Similar congregations were held at major mosques and shrines across the Valley.
The main congregation is scheduled for Wednesday at Hazratbal, where thousands are expected to attend day-long prayers.
The holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) will be displayed after each prayer, drawing devotees from across Jammu and Kashmir, according to the source material.
Devotees also gathered at markets around Hazratbal and other shrine areas, while roads leading to the shrine were decorated with banners.
Authorities made arrangements for sanitation, healthcare, electricity, traffic management and public transport.
Officials said coordination meetings were held involving police, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Health Department, Power Development Department, Traffic Police and Transport Department.
The Srinagar Municipal Corporation said cleanliness drives had been conducted at Hazratbal and other major shrines.
Traffic Police issued advisories, designated parking areas and prepared diversion plans, while additional public transport services were arranged on major routes.
