Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday said the decisions taken by the GST Council would strengthen the Union Territory’s fiscal position, support economic growth and accelerate development.
Abdullah made the remarks while attending the Council’s 57th meeting in New Delhi in his capacity as Jammu and Kashmir’s finance minister. The meeting was chaired by Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
He expressed confidence that the decisions would improve the region’s financial position and support development and public welfare.
Chief Ministers, Finance Ministers, and senior officials from across the country attended the meeting.
The Council discussed issues relating to the Goods and Services Tax, including strengthening the fiscal capacity of states and Union Territories, improving revenue mobilisation and advancing balanced fiscal federalism.
