The government has designated the Divisional Commissioners and Inspector Generals of Police of the Kashmir and Jammu divisions as the only authorised officials to brief the media on matters related to this year’s annual Amarnath pilgrimage, in a move aimed at ensuring dissemination of verified information.

The directive, issued by the Tourism Department, authorises the Divisional Commissioners and Inspectors General of Police of both divisions to interact with the media and conduct press briefings on all aspects of the pilgrimage.

According to the circular, the designated officers will also coordinate closely with the Jammu and Kashmir Information Department and the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board to ensure consistency in official communication during the annual pilgrimage.

“To ensure the dissemination of authentic information regarding the Shri Amarnathji Yatra, 2026, only the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and IGP Kashmir for the Kashmir Division, and the Divisional Commissioner Jammu and IGP Jammu for the Jammu Division are authorised to interact with the media and conduct press briefings concerning all aspects of the Yatra,” the order said.

The government said the authorised officers would work in coordination with the Information Department and the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board while issuing updates on security, logistics and other pilgrimage-related matters.

The annual pilgrimage to the Himalayan cave shrine is scheduled to commence on July 3 amid heightened security arrangements and extensive logistical preparations by the civil administration and security agencies.
