The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of the Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against a Pulwama resident in an alleged Rs 35 lakh cheque fraud case.

The chargesheet in FIR No. 44/2026 has been submitted before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Pulwama, against Mushtaq Ahmad Yatoo, son of Ali Mohammad Yatoo, a resident of Chanpora, Rajpora.

The case has been registered under Sections 318(2), 336(3) and 340 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

According to the EOW, the case originated from a written complaint alleging that the complainant and the accused were business partners.

During the settlement of their business accounts, an outstanding liability of Rs 35 lakh was allegedly found against the accused.

The complainant alleged that Yatoo issued a cheque to clear the liability, but the bank dishonoured it after finding that it had been issued in the name of the accused’s father, who had died two years earlier.

The agency said the accused had allegedly affixed his own signatures to the cheque.

The EOW said its investigation substantiated the allegations and established the charges against the accused.

The investigation was conducted by Sub-Inspector Farooq Ahmad, following which the chargesheet was filed before the competent court for judicial determination.

Meanwhile, the Senior Superintendent of Police, EOW Kashmir, advised people to maintain proper documentation of business transactions, verify financial instruments and remain alert to fraudulent practices to protect their money.
