Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday inaugurated the Rotary Satellite Club-Kashmir Valley, expanding Rotary International’s community-service activities in the region.
The new club has been established with the support of Rotary International District 3141 and the Rotary Club of Dahanu, officials said.
Abdullah welcomed the initiative and highlighted Rotary’s work in healthcare, education, sanitation, environmental protection and community development.
He said the organisation could support Kashmiri artisans through skill development, innovation, improved market access and livelihood opportunities.
Rotary could also contribute to tourism and hospitality by providing professional training, engaging young people and promoting responsible tourism, Abdullah said.
He encouraged the newly installed board to identify local needs and develop sustainable projects in coordination with government departments and other institutions.
Referring to Rotary International’s theme, “Create Lasting Impact”, Abdullah said sustained community-focused work could contribute to long-term social benefits.
The event also included the installation of the club’s board of directors and awards recognising contributions to tourism, art, hospitality and public service.
