India’s Home Ministry has directed Jammu and Kashmir IAS officer Mohammad Ajaz to join his new posting in Arunachal Pradesh from October 5, warning of possible disciplinary action if he fails to comply with the transfer order.

Ajaz, a 2012-batch officer of the AGMUT cadre, was transferred from Jammu and Kashmir to Arunachal Pradesh through a ministry order issued on September 9, 2026. The ministry said he had not yet been relieved from his current posting.

In an order issued with the approval of the competent authority, the ministry directed that Ajaz be deemed relieved from the Jammu and Kashmir government with effect from October 5 and join his new posting immediately thereafter.

The order cited the 2016 guidelines for the transfer and posting of IAS and IPS officers of the AGMUT cadre, which require officers to join their new administrative segments within 15 days of the effective date of transfer.

It said non-compliance could attract consequences under service rules, including stoppage of salary, issuance of displeasure, debarment from promotion and restriction on central deputation.

The ministry warned that continued failure to comply could also lead to disciplinary proceedings and other action under applicable service rules.

It said representations seeking cancellation of the transfer order or its suspension would not be entertained.

Ajaz is currently listed as Secretary of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj in Jammu and Kashmir, according to the order’s distribution list.

The ministry has asked the Jammu and Kashmir chief secretary not to draw his salary after October 5 and requested the Arunachal Pradesh chief secretary to submit his joining report once he assumes charge.
