The cabinet on Friday approved the reorganisation of the Jal Shakti Department and discussed the implementation of a proposed scheme to provide 200 units of free electricity to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) families in J&K, sources said.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, reviewed modalities for extending free electricity benefits to economically weaker households.
According to sources, discrepancies were identified in the data related to AAY beneficiaries, with figures provided by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs not matching records maintained by the Power Development Department.
Sources said the government was considering using beneficiary data from the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department for implementing the scheme.
The administration is also examining a proposal to provide 200 units of free electricity per month to AAY families under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, the sources added.
The cabinet also approved the proposal for restructuring the Jal Shakti Department, although details of the reorganisation were not immediately disclosed.
Sources said routine administrative matters were also discussed during the cabinet meeting.
