Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma said on Wednesday that the BJP legislative group would raise public grievances in the upcoming Assembly session after meeting residents across the region.
Sharma was speaking to residents and representatives of different sections of society from Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora during a pre-session outreach programme at Baramulla.
He said BJP legislators would visit district headquarters across Jammu and Kashmir to hear people’s concerns before the Assembly session begins.
“A large number of people have come from different parts of North Kashmir with their issues,” Sharma said.
He said the opposition had a responsibility to ensure that people’s concerns reached the government and the Assembly.
Issues raised during the meeting included roads, bridges, water supply, tourism, electricity charges, employment, outsourced workers, National Health Mission employees, Anganwadi workers and municipal elections.
Sharma said unemployment and employment-related grievances required government attention and said local governance and civic infrastructure also needed to be strengthened.
“The people have brought very basic issues before us,” he said, referring to concerns over roads, bridges, water supply, tourism and other civic matters.
On municipal elections, Sharma said stronger grassroots institutions were important for local governance and development.
He said the BJP, as the principal opposition party, would take the issues raised during the outreach programme to the appropriate forums in the Assembly.
The autumn session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly is scheduled to begin on September 21.
