The annual Amarnath Yatra resumed on Sunday after a one-day suspension caused by the closure of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway following heavy rain and landslides.

A total of 3886 yatris left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu for the Baltal base camp in a convoy of 177 vehicles, the Zonal Police Control Room said.

The convoy, which departed at 2:52 am, included 3,098 men, 673 women, five children, 87 sadhus, 22 sadhvis and one child sadhu.

The yatra was suspended on Saturday after authorities closed the highway between Udhampur and Banihal for restoration work at landslide-hit stretches. The road reopened later that day.

The cumulative number of yatris who have departed from the Jammu base camp for the Baltal route has now reached 1,39,692, officials said.

Authorities are continuing to monitor weather conditions and highway safety while maintaining heightened security and traffic controls.
