Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday directed authorities to maintain round-the-clock rescue, relief and restoration operations as heavy rain, flash floods and landslides damaged homes and infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir.

Sinha spoke to senior officials and the deputy commissioners of Rajouri and Poonch to review the scale of damage in the two worst-affected districts.

The Lieutenant Governor said the Divisional Commissioner and Inspector General of Police, Jammu, were monitoring the situation on the ground, with the immediate priority being restoration of road connectivity and essential services.

“Out of 435 damaged roads, 356 have already been restored,” Sinha said in a post on X.

Teams from the SDRF, NDRF, Army, Border Roads Organisation, National Highways Authority of India, J&K Police and Civil Defence were engaged in rescue and restoration work, while quick-response teams were deployed in vulnerable areas.

Sinha urged residents to avoid non-essential travel in areas at risk from flooding and landslides and to follow safety instructions issued by local administrations.

He expressed condolences to families who lost relatives in the natural calamities and wished those injured a speedy recovery.

The LG also ordered district administrations and emergency agencies to maintain round-the-clock operations as heavy rain, flash floods and landslides continued to damage infrastructure in J&K.

Sinha reviewed the situation with senior officials and the deputy commissioners of Rajouri and Poonch, focusing on damage to houses and public infrastructure.

He said the administration’s immediate priorities were rescue operations, relief for affected families and restoration of roads, power and water supplies.

The LG said 356 of 435 roads reported damaged had been restored.

The SDRF, NDRF, Army, BRO, NHAI, J&K Police and Civil Defence were working together, while quick-response teams had been positioned in vulnerable locations.

Sinha urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel in areas exposed to flooding and landslides and to comply with safety advisories.

He expressed condolences to the families of those killed and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
