Deceased identified as Suneel Kumar of Jalandhar

An undertrial prisoner lodged in district jail Anantnag died at a hospital after reporting illness during the night, officials said on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Suneel Kumar, a resident of Jalandhar in Punjab, who was facing charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Officials said Kumar complained of health problems while in custody and was subsequently shifted to the Government Medical College, Anantnag, for treatment.
He later died at the hospital, they said.
Authorities have initiated proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which governs inquiries into custodial deaths and related cases.
Officials said further details would emerge following completion of legal and medical procedures.
