Srinagar, June 18

Seven workers were injured, one critically, after a fire broke out at a cement factory in the Khonmoh area on the outskirts of Srinagar on Thursday, police said.

The blaze erupted in a chimney section of the plant while employees were on duty, according to preliminary findings.

Emergency responders evacuated the injured workers and transferred them to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital, where they were receiving treatment.

Police said one worker sustained severe burn injuries and remained in critical condition, while the others were reported to be stable.

Hospital officials said the injured had been admitted to emergency and specialised burn care units for monitoring and treatment.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and examine whether safety procedures at the facility were being followed.

Industrial accidents remain a concern across parts of India, where enforcement of workplace safety standards varies across sectors and regions.
