Rajouri, June 4
A security operation in Rajouri district of Pir Panjal region entered its 13th consecutive day on Thursday, with forces continuing extensive searches in the forested Dori Maal area of Gambhir Mughalan under the jurisdiction of Manjakote Police Station.
Security forces have maintained a tight cordon around the area and intensified search efforts in the dense terrain as the operation, one of the longest in the district in recent years, showed no signs of concluding.
The ongoing exercise is being viewed as the longest search operation conducted in Rajouri in more than a decade and has drawn comparisons with the Nar-Bhata Dhurian operation in Poonch’s Mendhar sector in 2021, which continued for over three weeks.
Residents in the area have expressed concern over the prolonged security presence and restrictions as the operation continues.
Officials said brief firing was heard from the operation site on Thursday, indicating continued engagement in the area.
However, authorities have not issued a detailed statement on the progress or outcome of the operation so far.
The search operation was launched after security forces established contact with suspected militants during an intelligence-based operation in the area, triggering an exchange of fire.
The operation remains underway, with reports of explosions being heard in the area on an almost daily basis since it began.
