Justice A M Magrey empanelled as senior panel counsel with Supreme Court Legal Services Committee

His name figures among 164 senior advocates empanelled with the committee

Former Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Justice Ali Muhammad Magrey, has been empanelled as Senior Panel Counsel with the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee.

Justice (Retd) Magrey’s name figures among 164 senior advocates empanelled with the committee following a unanimous decision taken by its Executive Committee during its 72nd meeting held on March 12 this year.

The empanelment came into effect from May 15, 2026. The senior advocates on the panel provide legal services to the committee on a pro bono basis.

Justice Magrey is already a designated senior advocate of the Supreme Court of India. He also serves as an arbitrator with the Delhi International Arbitration Centre and the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.

In addition, he is associated with judicial and academic institutions as visiting faculty at the National Judicial Academy and the Maharashtra Judicial Academy. He is also a visiting faculty member at K R Mangalam University and serves on its advisory board.

Justice Magrey was appointed as a permanent judge of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court on March 8, 2013.

Born on December 8, 1960, in Wattoo village in Damhal Hanjipora of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, he completed his schooling in his native village before pursuing graduation and LLB (Honours) from the University of Kashmir.

He was enrolled as an advocate in 1984 and began his legal practice in district courts, including revenue courts and tribunals.
