The Moul Mouj Foundation and Shehlat Foundation on Sunday launched a joint awareness and outreach programme under the “Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir” campaign, bringing together academics, cultural figures and civil society members to highlight the impact of drug addiction.

The event featured literary and cultural presentations, including Urdu and Kashmiri poetry performances focusing on the human and social costs of substance abuse.

Speakers at the programme emphasised a multi-pronged approach involving education, family structures and institutional support to curb addiction. Former Director of the Central Bureau of Communication, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and Shehlat Foundation Vice Chairman Ghulam Abbas underlined the role of strategic communication in influencing behavioural change.

Dr Zubair Saleem, founder chairman of Moul Mouj Foundation, said the organisation aims to protect vulnerable groups, particularly within families affected by addiction, and stressed the importance of intergenerational bonding as a social safeguard.

Other speakers called for stronger engagement from educational institutions and cultural platforms, saying art and public discourse can play a key role in prevention and awareness.

The programme also included a theatrical skit by the cultural group “Funkaar” depicting the social consequences of substance abuse.

Organisers said the initiative would be expanded to include programmes focused on healthcare, women, elderly welfare and environmental awareness as part of a broader community outreach effort.
