Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday chaired a high-level review meeting at Lok Bhavan to assess progress of the “Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan” and directed district administrations to adopt a focused, time-bound and result-oriented approach over the next 78 days.

The meeting reviewed district-wise action plans aimed at curbing drug abuse and dismantling narcotics networks, according to officials.

Top civil and police officers, including Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo and Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, attended the meeting along with senior administrative and police leadership from Kashmir division.

LG Sinha stressed intensified enforcement against drug trafficking and called for measurable outcomes at the grassroots level.

He directed authorities to ensure strict implementation of standard operating procedures for suspension or cancellation of driving licences and passports of those involved in drug-related offences.

The LG also called for swift identification and seizure of properties linked to drug smuggling networks, and ordered intensified inspections of pharmaceutical shops to prevent misuse of prescription drugs.

Emphasising community participation, he urged active involvement of religious leaders, educators, traders, youth groups and civil society in turning the campaign into a sustained mass movement.

LG Sinha also instructed district administrations to expand youth engagement through sports infrastructure and regular competitions under the anti-drug drive.

He directed officials to identify and act against unauthorised de-addiction centres, and strengthen monitoring mechanisms around educational institutions and vulnerable areas.

Authorities were also asked to utilise public outreach platforms such as Block Diwas and Thana Diwas to improve grievance redressal and strengthen public trust in governance.

The administration reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics, framing the campaign as a long-term effort to reduce drug dependency and disrupt trafficking networks across the Union Territory.
