Engineer Rashid arrived in Srinagar on Thursday after being granted interim bail to meet his critically ill father, with emotional scenes unfolding at a city hospital where the MP broke down during the meeting, sources said.

Rashid, whose official name is Abdul Rashid Sheikh, travelled directly from Srinagar airport to SMHS Hospital amid tight security arrangements.

Hundreds of supporters and activists of the Awami Itihaad Party gathered along the airport road and outside the hospital, though the situation remained peaceful.

Sources said the Baramulla MP became emotional and wept while embracing his ailing father inside the hospital.

In line with conditions laid down by the Delhi High Court, Rashid did not address the media or interact publicly during the visit.

AIP chief spokesperson Inam-un-Nabi thanked the police and civil administration for maintaining order and appealed to supporters to exercise restraint, describing the visit as humanitarian in nature.
