Experts, policymakers and telecom professionals on Saturday discussed digital resilience, cybersecurity and inclusive technological development at a seminar in Srinagar marking World Telecommunication and Information Society Day 2026.
The one-day seminar, organised by the Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu and Kashmir State Centre, was held under the theme “Digital Lifelines – Strengthening Resilience in a Connected World”.
The event brought together engineers, telecom specialists, public representatives and policymakers to deliberate on broadband connectivity, cybersecurity and digital inclusion.
Addressing the seminar, Jammu and Kashmir Information Technology Minister Satish Sharma reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening digital infrastructure and expanding access to technology-driven services across the federally administered territory.
He also highlighted the role of professional institutions in promoting technical awareness and encouraging discussions on emerging technological opportunities and challenges.
Speaking at the inaugural session, Irfan Ahmad Reshi, honorary secretary of the engineering institution’s Jammu and Kashmir chapter, emphasised the growing importance of communication technologies in governance, education, healthcare and economic development.
Ferdous Ahad Bhat, chairman of the institution’s J&K centre, said resilient and inclusive digital ecosystems were essential to support societies during emergencies and technological disruptions.
He stressed the need to strengthen cybersecurity frameworks, broadband infrastructure and connectivity in remote and underserved regions.
During the technical session, Feroze Jalali Malla, a data protection officer, delivered a presentation on cybersecurity, digital trust and information security challenges in increasingly connected societies.
Masharib Gul Mufti, principal general manager of the BharatNet project for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, outlined ongoing efforts to expand digital connectivity in rural and remote areas under the initiative.
Participants also took part in an interactive discussion on cybersecurity concerns, digital inclusion and future communication infrastructure requirements before the programme concluded with a felicitation ceremony and vote of thanks.
