Railway ticket checking staff at Katra railway station in Jammu and Kashmir reunited an elderly woman from Madhya Pradesh with her family after she became separated from them in a crowd, railway officials said on Tuesday.
The woman was found distressed and alone near the station’s inquiry office by ticket checking staff member Kamalkant while he was on duty, officials said.
“Upon making inquiries, it was learned that the woman had been separated from her family the previous evening amidst the hustle and bustle of the station,” Raghvender Singh said.
According to railway officials, the woman was mentally distressed and initially unable to provide clear details about her family.
The ticket checking staff alerted the Government Railway Police and launched efforts to identify her.
Officials later confirmed that the woman was a resident of Vikramgarh in Madhya Pradesh and contacted her family by phone.
Family members told officials they had been searching anxiously for her after losing contact at the station.
Uchit Singhal said the railway administration remained committed to passenger safety and welfare.
“The ticket checking staff not only discharged their official duties but also demonstrated true humanity by performing the commendable act of reuniting a separated family,” Singhal said.
The woman was later sent safely to her hometown aboard the Swaraj Express from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway Station under the supervision of railway authorities.
Officials said onboard railway staff had also been instructed to provide special care to her during the journey.
The railway administration said the response by staff and police had been appreciated by passengers and the woman’s family members.
