Authorities on Tuesday demolished a roadside eatery along the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway in Ramban district over alleged links to drug trafficking, officials said.
The establishment, known as Makhan Dhaba in the Chanderkote area, was razed following intelligence inputs that it was being used to supply narcotics to locals and highway commuters, including drivers, police said.
The eatery was owned by Makhan Singh, a resident originally from Punjab who had been living in the area for decades.
Police said he faces multiple cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Officials said the demolition was part of a broader crackdown on narcotics under the administration’s campaign against drug abuse, launched under the direction of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
Authorities said the action aimed to dismantle networks involved in the illegal drug trade and deter further trafficking in the region.
