Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday inspected the civil secretariat in Srinagar as offices reopened in the summer capital following the resumption of the Darbar Move, officials said.

Abdullah was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour on arrival and inspected the parade, marking his first such reception in Srinagar since the administrative shift was reinstated last year.

The Darbar Move – a longstanding governance practice involving the biannual shift of offices between Jammu and Srinagar – had been restored after a hiatus, with the civil secretariat moving fully to Srinagar for the summer season.

He was received by cabinet colleagues, Deputy Chief Minister and Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, along with senior civil and police officials.

The reopening of offices in Srinagar marks the formal start of the administration’s functioning in the summer capital, underscoring continuity in governance.

During the visit, Abdullah toured various sections of the secretariat, including ministerial chambers, administrative offices, clerical halls, and a renovated public waiting area at the main gate.

He was accompanied by senior officials, including his advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, additional chief secretaries Shaleen Kabra and Dheeraj Gupta, and Director Estates Kashmir Muhammad Ashraf Hakak.

Abdullah also interacted with officials, staff and members of the public, assuring them of improved facilities aimed at streamlining and enhancing public service delivery, officials said.
