Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Sunil Sharma on Monday said voters in West Bengal had rejected “corruption and anarchy”, as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrated gains in assembly elections across several states.

“People voted against corruption and the anarchy spread by the Trinamool Congress,” Sharma told reporters, adding that the results exposed what he described as weakening opposition alliances nationwide.

The BJP held celebrations at its headquarters in Jammu, where party workers gathered to mark victories and electoral gains in West Bengal, Assam, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

J&K BJP president Sat Sharma said the results reflected public trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the party’s governance model.

He said that the party’s performance in West Bengal and Assam, along with gains in southern states, indicated the expansion of its political base.

Senior BJP leader Ashok Koul, who led celebrations in Kashmir, said the results showed public support for “decisive leadership” and development-oriented governance.

Party leaders also criticised opposition parties, accusing them of pursuing divisive politics and ignoring public concerns.

The celebrations were attended by several BJP leaders and legislators, along with party workers, who distributed sweets and congratulated each other on what they described as a strong electoral performance.
