Srinagar, April 25

The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic on Saturday despite fresh rainfall in Ramban district, though movement was slow along some stretches, officials said.

Traffic authorities said both light motor vehicles and heavy vehicles were allowed to ply from either side of the highway, with operations on Sunday also subject to weather and road conditions.

However, traffic was restricted to a single lane between Marog and Kishtwari Pather, leading to congestion.

Movement was further slowed by the breakdown of two heavy vehicles and the passage of nomadic herds along the route, officials said.

Authorities advised commuters to travel during daytime only, warning of risks including landslides, shooting stones and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal.

Passengers were urged to follow lane discipline to avoid bottlenecks, while Traffic Control Units in Jammu, Ramban, and Srinagar are monitoring conditions and issuing updates.

On the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road, officials said only Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and private passenger cars would be allowed from Kishtwar towards Srinagar via Sinthan Top, subject to favourable weather and clearance, with movement permitted between 10 am and 3 pm.
