Boxers trained under the Indian Army’s elite sports programme won eight medals, including three gold, at the Asian Boxing Championships held in Mongolia this month, officials said.

The contingent, trained at the Army Sports Institute under the Mission Olympics programme, secured three gold, two silver and three bronze medals across men’s and women’s categories.

In the men’s events, Vishwanath won gold in the 50 kg category, while Sachin took silver in the 60 kg division.

Akash in 75 kg category, Lokesh in 85 kg category, and Narender in over 90 kg category each claimed bronze medals.

In the women’s competitions, Preeti clinched gold in the 54 kg category and Arundhati topped the 70 kg division, while Jasmine secured silver in the 57 kg category.

Officials said the results reflected the effectiveness of the Army’s sports training ecosystem, which aims to prepare athletes for international competition.

“The medal haul highlights the high standards of training and discipline under the Mission Olympics programme,” a defence spokesperson said.

The Army Sports Institute, part of India’s broader push to improve sporting performance, focuses on identifying and developing athletes for global events.
