Prolonged and unscheduled power outages in several areas of Srinagar have disrupted daily life and industrial activity, drawing complaints from residents and business owners, officials said.

Frequent electricity cuts over the past three days have affected localities including Sanat Nagar, Rawalpora and the Industrial Estate at Rangreth, where industrial units reported interruptions to production and financial losses.

General Secretary of an industrialists’ association in Rangreth, Nusrullah Jan, said erratic supply and prolonged outages have left machinery idle and workers underutilised, impacting small and medium enterprises.

He also cited voltage fluctuations as a concern, saying sensitive equipment has been damaged, increasing maintenance costs for businesses.

Residents in Rawalpora said repeated outages, often without prior notice, have made routine household activities difficult, including access to water and study time for children. 

Some said backup systems such as inverters were failing due to extended power cuts.

Similar complaints were reported from Sanat Nagar, where locals said the problem has persisted without improvement.

Officials from the Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited said the disruptions were caused by a technical fault and that efforts were underway to restore normal supply.

Chief Engineer (Distribution) Nisar Ahmad Lone said the issue would be addressed on priority, adding that necessary directions would be issued to field staff.

Residents and industrialists have urged authorities to ensure a stable power supply and provide advance notice of outages, warning that continued disruptions could affect livelihoods and economic activity in the affected areas.
