Two young men were killed after the motorcycle they were riding crashed in the Gandhi Nagar area of Jammu on Tuesday, police said.

The victims were identified as Kunal Sote, 21, and Lakshya, 19, both residents of Valmiki Colony in Jammu.

Police said the two died at the scene after the motorcycle met with an accident near Last Morh in Gandhi Nagar.

A preliminary investigation indicated that rash and negligent driving appeared to have caused the crash, although officials said further inquiries were underway to determine the exact sequence of events.

The motorcycle involved in the accident was registered in Jammu, police said.

A case has been registered and investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Road accidents remain a significant safety concern across Jammu and Kashmir, with police regularly attributing many fatal crashes to speeding, reckless driving and failure to follow traffic regulations.
