The Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday sharply criticized Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accusing his government of advancing policies that benefit entrenched interests while neglecting the region’s poorer and more vulnerable communities.

In a strongly worded statement, the opposition leader, Sharma, said the administration had failed to uphold principles of fairness and accountability, instead “patronizing those who have long benefited at the expense of the underprivileged.”

He described a recent government decision – though without detailing specific measures — as troubling and warned that such actions could erode public confidence in governance.

“This is a betrayal of public trust,” Sharma said, adding that residents of Jammu and Kashmir expect transparency and equitable treatment from those in power.

The remarks reflect mounting political tensions in the region, where opposition parties have increasingly questioned the government’s policy priorities and its handling of issues affecting disadvantaged groups.

The Leader of Opposition called on the administration to reconsider its approach and adopt policies that promote inclusivity, accountability and balanced development.

“The people deserve governance that serves all, not just a select few,” he said.
