Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Vidhi Kumar Birdi on Monday called for stronger counter-insurgency measures and closer coordination among security agencies during a review meeting focused on the security situation in the Valley.

Birdi, Inspector General of Police for Kashmir, directed officers to strengthen security arrangements ahead of forthcoming events and maintain sustained preparedness.

He called for greater intelligence-based operations, enhanced area domination and increased surveillance in sensitive areas.

Security arrangements along national highways, railway tracks and railway stations were also reviewed, with officers instructed to strengthen checkpoints, deploy dynamic roadblocks and increase foot patrols, particularly at night.

Birdi stressed the need to protect critical infrastructure and vulnerable locations and urged officers to monitor activities that could threaten public safety.

He also directed district police chiefs to remain vigilant against anti-national and anti-social elements and monitor social media for misinformation, rumours and malicious content.

Senior officers from the police, paramilitary forces, intelligence agencies, army and other security organisations attended the meeting, which reviewed recent security developments and emerging challenges.
