Police in Jammu and Kashmir attached more than 33 kanal of land belonging to five Pakistan-based terror handlers in Reasi district as part of an investigation into alleged terrorist financing, officials said.

The action was taken during an investigation into a case registered at Mahore police station under provisions of India’s Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosives and other relevant laws, police said.

The attached properties include seven kanal of land belonging to Alaf Din of Shajroo; 10 kanal and 11 marlas belonging to Ghulam Muhammad, also of Shajroo; 17 marlas belonging to Muhammad Asraf of Chakrass; seven kanal and three marlas belonging to Shabir Ahmad of Chakrass; and eight kanal and one marla belonging to Bihar Din of Sildhar.

Police said the five accused had crossed into Pakistan for terrorist training and were operating as handlers from across the border, coordinating and facilitating militant activities.

Investigators found that the properties could be sold and the proceeds used to finance terrorist operations, police said.

The attachments were carried out after approval from the Jammu and Kashmir Police headquarters and under relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the police said.

The action was aimed at disrupting the financial infrastructure supporting terrorism and preventing assets linked to alleged terror operatives from being used to fund militant activities, police said.
