Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Friday visited the family of police head constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi, who was killed in a militant attack in Anantnag, offering condolences and pledging continued support to his relatives.

Sharma visited Qureshi’s residence in Budgam district and paid tribute to the policeman, saying his death while serving the country would be remembered with honour and respect.

He expressed sympathy to the bereaved family and offered prayers for the deceased, wishing relatives strength to cope with the loss.

Sharma said the family had the support of the nation and assured them that they would continue to receive assistance and solidarity during the difficult period following Qureshi’s death.

During the visit, Sharma also facilitated a telephone conversation between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Qureshi’s son using his mobile phone.

Sharma welcomed Shah’s decision to personally reach out to the family, saying the gesture reflected the central government’s commitment to families of security personnel killed in the line of duty.

He reiterated his support for the family and said those who sacrificed their lives in service would always be honoured, while their relatives deserved continued respect, support and care.
