Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have suspended four major yatras as persistent monsoon rain increased the risk of landslides, flash floods and other hazards across the region.

The Amarnath Yatra was suspended until further orders, while pilgrimages to the Mata Vaishno Devi, Shiv Khori, and Sarthal Devi shrines were also temporarily halted as a precaution.

The decision followed forecasts of moderate to heavy rainfall and warnings of landslides, shooting stones and overflowing streams along pilgrimage routes and the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

No vehicles carrying Amarnath Yatris will be allowed to travel towards Srinagar from Jammu, Udhampur, or Ramban until weather conditions improve, officials said.

Yatris stranded at transit locations have been advised to remain in designated accommodation centres while district administrations and security agencies provide food, water, medical care, and other essential services.

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board also asked devotees to postpone their journey and rely only on official information about the resumption of the yatra.

The Shiv Khori Yatra in Reasi district was suspended because of persistent rain and unsafe conditions in the Ransoo area.

In Kishtwar, authorities halted the Sarthal Devi Yatra, citing increased risks from landslides, flash floods, shooting stones and overflowing streams.

Officials said the restrictions were temporary and would be lifted after a review of weather conditions, route safety and road connectivity.
