The Jammu and Kashmir State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) concluded a three-day programme to train mathematics educators in experiential learning, as authorities seek to strengthen competency-based teaching in line with India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The capacity-building programme, organised by SCERT’s Divisional Office in Kashmir, brought together Master Resource Persons from District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) and schools across the Valley.

The participants will in turn train mathematics teachers in their respective districts under a cascading model intended to widen the adoption of innovative classroom practices.

SCERT officials said the initiative is designed to promote activity-based and learner-centric teaching methods that encourage conceptual understanding, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The programme included sessions on experiential pedagogy, classroom simulations, mathematics puzzles and the use of low-cost teaching materials, including origami, to simplify abstract mathematical concepts.

Officials said the training aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy and the National Curriculum Framework by equipping teachers with practical tools to make mathematics more interactive and relevant to students.

Participants concluded the programme with a commitment to replicate the training at the district level to expand the use of experiential learning across schools in Jammu and Kashmir.
