VC announces incentive as university honours National Youth Parliament champions

The University of Kashmir will award academic credits to students representing the institution in national-level youth leadership programmes, its Vice Chancellor said on Thursday, as the university felicitated a team that won this year’s National Youth Parliament Competition.
The announcement came during a ceremony held at the university’s Gandhi Bhawan to honour students who secured first place in the 17th National Youth Parliament Competition, organised by India’s Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs.
Vice Chancellor Nilofer Khan said participation in national competitions and leadership programmes would be formally recognised under the university’s academic framework to encourage student engagement beyond the classroom.
She said the national title reflected the students’ academic ability, communication skills and commitment to democratic values, adding that the university would continue to promote leadership and innovation among its students.
The event was attended by senior university officials, faculty members and students, with the winning team and its mentor receiving awards and certificates.
University Registrar Naseer Iqbal described the achievement as a matter of pride for the institution, while Dean Students’ Welfare Seema Singh said the victory highlighted the team’s discipline, teamwork and commitment.
During the ceremony, the university also received the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Running Parliamentary Shield and the Champions Parliamentary Shield, recognising its victory in the national competition.
The University of Kashmir secured the championship in the 17th National Youth Parliament Competition, organised by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, becoming this year’s national winner.
